i is for ice cream

each week or so, Bear and I make signs like these for the current letter that he's working on.  i don't have a set schedule as in "one per week".  i follow his lead.  generally after he's able to identify the letter and a few words that start with it, we move on.

since we were covering the letter I it only made sense that we would
make our own ice cream
here's the recipe from Highlight's High Five magazine that we followed:

we used vanilla soy milk instead.

Bear shook it for about 2 minutes.  momma did the rest.  it was a bit of an arm workout.  as u was shaking, shaking, and shaking, i stopped occasionally to let Bear see it and feel it.

i asked questions like, does it feel different than it did when we started?
why do you think it's getting crunchy?
how long do you think it's going to take to turn to ice cream?
i wanted to provide him with open-ended questions (ones that can't be answered by yes/no).  after he gave me his thoughts and ideas, i expanded on them.  unbeknownst to Bear, he was actually learning, too!

when it looked like this, we stopped.
then we scooped it into a few bowls, put cHocOLate sAUcE on it and ate up.  taste-wise, i wouldn't make it again.  but the experience of making our own ice cream was definitely fun for Bear!
